Obituary of Ida E. Foxhoven

Ida E. Foxhoven, age 90 of Yankton passed away peacefully on early Monday morning, August 24, 2015 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 AM Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Larry Regynski officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM and Scripture service at 7:30 PM.. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Andrew Foxhoven, Dustin Daly, PJ Foxhoven, Tony Foxhoven, Brian Lubbers, and Brad Lubbers. Ida Lubbers was born June 19, 1925 on a farm in Osmond, NE. She was the 11th child of the 14 children of John and Elizabeth (Gorges) Lubbers. When Ida was 3 years old, the family moved to a farm northwest of Yankton. When Ida was six months old, the family bought a home on Park Street where they lived for many years. Ida attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Yankton High School. After high school, Ida was a lifeguard at the Yankton swimming park in 1944 and 1945. She then moved to Sioux City and worked as a clerk typist at the Sioux City Air Base. She then moved to Salem, OR where she worked at Fairview Home. Returning home, she began working as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward's where she met her future husband, Elmer. Elmer Foxhoven and Ida were married June 3, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD. Ida was a stay at home mom for a number of years. She then worked for the school lunch program at middle school for eight years. The Foxhovens' then moved to a farm by Crofton for ten years. When Elmer retired from the post office, they moved back to Yankton, SD where they both became active in the VFW. Elmer died February 7, 2003. Ida was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, the DAV Auxiliary and a member of NARFE (National Association of RetiredFederal Employees), American Legion Auxiliary and the Senior Citizen Center. She is survived by her two sons, Terry Lee (Elizabeth) Foxhoven of Omaha, NE and Jerry R. (Julie) Foxhoven of Des Moines, IA; 5 grandchildren, Andrew (Tiffany) Foxhoven, Molly (Dustin) Daly of Omaha, NE; Tony M. Foxhoven and PJ of Clive, IA and 5 great-grandchildren: Dylan, Allison, Drew, Brayden and Gaby, one brother Alfred (Millie) Lubbers of Lake Kowi, TX. Sisters-in-law Marjorie Lubbers of Missoula, MT and Audrey Lubbers of Yankton, SD and many nieces and nephews. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer "Foxy" Foxhoven, six sisters: Johanna (Albert) Kaiser, Martha Baker, Marie (John) Erekstol, Irene (Cleo) Rathjen, Dorothy and Frances Lubbers; six brothers: Raymond (Helen), Victor (Lola), Leonard (Donna), John, Albert, and Jerome and her parents, John & Elizabeth Lubbers.
