Blaine D. "Bud" Sagmoe, age 71 of Yankton, SD passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. He battled with brain cancer for 21 1/2 months. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Monday, February 25, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Dave Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are John Sagmoe, Benjamin Sagmoe, Brett Marlette, Mark Clayton, Jim Zoeller, and Brian Fedde. Honorary Pallbearers are Clarence Hauger, Cy Groetken, Charles Bender, and Boyd Jones, his nieces and nephews, Terri Lynn LaFargue, Terri Lee Licktieg, Paul Berg, Kristin Meyer, Steven Meyer, and Molly Scherff. Blaine was born September 22, 1941, in Dell Rapids, SD, to Phillip and Anna (Sward) Sagmoe. He was baptized and confirmed at Dell Rapids Lutheran Church and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1964. He graduated at Dell Rapids High School and took one semester at SDSU. He married Judy Leuning on April 13, 1963 at Dell Rapids Lutheran Church. Blaine was a member of Sportsman Club in Dell Rapids and Sertoma Club in earlier years in Yankton. He worked at the Lumber Yard in Dell Rapids, then at Hanson Glass and Paint in Sioux Falls, SD. He then moved to Yankton in July of 1964 after purchasing the Fejfar Paint Store, which became Yankton Glass & Paint and then the name changed to Yankton Paint and Decorating, which he owned and operated for 42 years, until his retirement on January 1, 2007. He made the most of these years enjoying his hobbies: Hunting, fishing, traveling, boating on Lewis and Clark Lake, and golfing with his family and friends. He took a special joy when his daughters and their families would visit and enjoyed using "grandpa's toys". He is survived by his wife, Judy Kay; daughters, Sonya (Chris) Nielson from Grand Forks, ND and Linda (Carey) Sagmoe-Peterson; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Verna) Sagmoe of Dixon, IL, and Don (Marsha) Sagmoe of Dell Rapids, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Bernt & Dorothea Sagmoe, and John & Amelia Sward.
