Barry G. Mettler, age 56, of Menno, SD passed away, Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Salem Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Michael Hecht officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, SD. Visitations will be 5 to 8 PM, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Menno, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be: Gary Fischer, David Streyle, Roger Mensch, LuEllen Neuharth, Brian Herrboldt, and Austin Herrboldt. Honorary pallbearers are all his children, friends and family who hold Barry so dear to their hearts.
Barry was born on May 23, 1959 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was adopted by Gideon and Lillian Mettler in February of 1964. He lived in Menno, SD his entire life. He went to Menno High School until 1974, where he then took over farming with his father. He married Karen (Moore) Gangwish in September, 1980 and to this union three children were born.
Barry spent most of his time farming the family farm land. He enjoyed spending time with his children, family and friends. He loved going to car shows, tractor pulls and watching Nascar. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings as well. On July 3rd, 2009, Barry married Brenda Penney (Herrboldt). Barry and Brenda moved into town shortly after in 2009 and enjoyed going to farm auctions, concerts, and enjoyed spending time with all of their children.
Barry is survived by his wife of 6 years, Brenda; his children: Jamie (Abraham) Libby of Twentynine Palms, CA, Jarod Mettler of Lincoln, NE and Jeremy Mettler of Oakland, NE; step-sons, Andy Kanengieter of Minneapolis, MN, Aaron Kanengieter of Rushmore, MN, Shane Freeborn of Sioux Falls, SD and Jesse Freeborn of Yankton, SD; three grandchildren: Zachary and Mikayla Libby and Xavier Mettler; two sisters, Cindy (Thomas) Fischer and Dorothy Mettler; one brother, Scott and many nephews and nieces.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Gideon and Lillian; a brother, Dale; one sister, Joyce and a few good friends.
