Alice J. Neuharth, age 89, of Menno passed away early Friday, October 04, 2013, at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Zion Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Travis Grassmid officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, SD. Visitations will be from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, with a prayer service at 3:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Sherry Peterson, Bill Peterson, Michael Neuharth, Michelle Kettwig, Jayden Kettwig, and Shane Peterson.
Alice was born December 9, 1923 to G. Edward and Olga (Heckenlaible) Knittel. She was baptized December 25, 1923 at Heilbronn Church in Freeman, South Dakota. Alice attended country school and was confirmed on April 3, 1938. Her confirmation verse was Matthew 10: 32-33. She went on to parochial school, high school, and Freeman Junior college. She taught several country schools prior to her marriage to Elmer E. Neuharth on April 30, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman, SD. She became a member of the Zion Reformed Church after their marriage and served her church as Sunday school teacher and was also a Farmer's Union youth leader for many years.
She helped her husband farm, loved crafts, reading, traveling and poetry. She had a special love for family and enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Richard) Outka of Lubbock, TX; son, Earl (Teresa) Neuharth of Menno, SD; grandchildren, Sherry (Bill) Peterson, Kerry (Brandon) Brigance, Michael Neuharth, and Michelle (Jayden) Kettwig; great-grandchildren, Shane Peterson, Seth Peterson, Brady Brigance, Hunter Brigance, and Karter (Jax) Brigance; brothers and sisters-in-law, Victor Schneider, Erna (Laverne) Decker, Viona (Luverne) Buehner, Betty Neuharth, Philip (Virginia) Neuharth, Gideon Schultz, Arlene Walz, and Phyllis Knittel.
