Melissa was born January 16, 1984 in Yankton, SD to Robert Locken and Jacqueline M. Roubideaux. She was baptized at Vangen Lutheran Church, Mission Hill, SD. She attended Stewart Elementary and attended high school in Aurora, CO. She spent her early years in Wakonda, SD and grew up in Yankton, SD with her mother, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins. She also spent a lot of time with her best friend, Heather Wells. Melissa was a bright and beautiful little girl whose hobbies included collecting stamps and rocks that she would find. She also loved to write stories and had quite an imagination. She was eager to learn and also enjoyed roller skating and swimming. Melissa was a petite girl with a beautiful smile. She had a cute voice that made you smile at the sound of her giggles. Those who knew Melissa well loved her, enjoyed her company and were grateful for the times they shared with her.
Melissa met her father, Robert (Bob; aka: Slack) Locken who lived in Aurora, CO. They spent time together and she was happy to have him in her life. After her ten years spent with her mom and siblings, her life changed, as her mother passed away on March 6, 1995. That summer she went to stay with her dad in Aurora, CO and he continued to be there for her, raised her and knew her best for the remaining years of her life. While living with her dad, she enjoyed spending time with her dog "Teddy" and her cat, "Sammy", and shared many memories of her brothers and sisters with her dad.
Melissa is survived by her father; sisters, Eleanor "Ellie" and Cassandra "Cassie", both of Yankton, SD; brothers, Joseph "Joe" and Jason, both of Yankton, SD; grandmother, Annette Roubideaux of Yankton, SD; nieces, nephews, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, grandparents, and uncle, Harold Roubideaux.
