Art Hasker, Jr, age 81, of Yankton, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Private family interment of the cremated remains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton SD. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Scripture service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Dan Spect, Maynard Justra, Rob Winchell, Tom Rockne, Ken Haas, and Jim Simpson.
Art was born April 11th, 1933 to Arthur and Erma (Kirschenman) Hasker Sr. He was baptized and confirmed in Sacred Heart Church, Yankton, SD. He attended Model School in 1942 at Mount Marty College. He graduated from Yankton High School in 1951. Art joined the US Navy in 1951, where he served in ADAK in the Alcuin Islands in Alaska and then finished his service in California. After four years of service, Art was Honorably Discharged from the Navy and remained living and working in Napa, California until 1956. Art then returned to Yankton, SD, where he opened a grocery- meat market with his father, Arthur Sr. Art married Patricia Fitzgerald on September 27, 1959 in Napa, California. After their marriage in Napa they returned to Yankton, where Art operated his own store for 35 years. He would later go on to work for Hy-Vee for the last 17 years. Hobbies of Art's ranged from flying airplanes, building and running model trains that he collected, working in his rose garden, traveling to Lake Tahoe for vacations, and reading books about World War II. Art loved his family and all of his friends and co-workers at Hy-Vee.
Art is survived by his wife, Patricia Hasker of Yankton, SD and his daughter, Joan Rochelle Hasker of Yankton, SD.
Art was preceded in death by his mother, father and his sister, Sharon Huitema.
