Douglas (Boomer) Alan Nelsen, age 64, of Yankton, SD passed away September 14, 2014 unexpectedly at his residence. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Rev. Dave Gunderson officiating. Visitations will be from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with the family present. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.
Doug was born October 21, 1949 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD to Nels and Bette (Larsen) Nelsen. He attended Volin School. Doug married Nola Novak on May 19, 1969. They were married 17 years, and to this union, two children were born. He worked for Kolberg Pioneer in Yankton, SD. They moved to Gillette, WY in 1981, where he was employed with Black Hills Power and Light. He primarily worked as a welder throughout his life. Doug enjoyed softball, hunting, fishing, playing cards, collecting coins and mostly, spending time with family. He enjoyed his visits to Las Vegas to spend time with his children and grandson.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Stacy Marie (Nelsen) Vasquez of Las Vegas, NV; son, Jeremy Alan Nelsen of Mesquite, NV; grandson, Edison Alan Vasquez of Las Vegas, NV; mother, Bette Nelsen of Yankton, SD; brother, Dennis (Connie) Nelsen of Elk Point, SD; aunts, uncles and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nels Nelsen.
