Raymond L. Ryken, age 62 of Yankton passed away early Monday, December 07, 2015 at his residence under Hospice care after losing his battle to cancer. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Rev. Winfried Schroeder officiating. Visitations will be one hour prior to the services at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD who is assisting with service details.
Raymond Lavern Ryken was born September 24, 1953 in Norfolk, NE to Lester and Adeline (Richert) Ryken and grew up in the Yankton area. He graduated from Yankton High School in 1971 and attended classes in auto body at Springfield. After completing classes, he worked with his dad, running Ryken's Salvage. He was baptized and confirmed at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in September 1974.
Raymond married Bonnie Schultz in Bonesteel, SD on October 5, 1974. To this union, 3 daughters were born. Ray worked at several jobs around Yankton in his lifetime, including Gurney's, Stuelpnagels, Jensen's Scrapyard, Alumax, Blackburn Housing, and Menards.
Ray enjoyed many hobbies. He loved to go fishing whenever he could, attending auctions to get a good buy or to add cookbooks to Bonnie's collection, undertaking a building or remodeling project, and taking pride in his garden and helping Jessica plan her garden.
Ray is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Yankton, SD, 3 daughters: Ingrid Ryken of Yankton, Heidi (Warren) Osborn of Yankton, and Jessica (DJ) Vyhlidal of Pierce NE; 3 sisters: Gail Ryken of Yankton, Karen (Bill) Pappel of Naper, NE and Leslie Larson of Yankton, SD; his mother-in-law; Loreen Schultz of Wagner; 3 brothers-in-law: Al (Michele) Schultz of Colorado Springs, CO, Eugene (Carlette) Schultz of Winner, SD, Myron Schultz of Bonesteel, SD; nieces and nephews, and special friends Bonnie Taggart and Sandy Taggart.
Ray was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, sister, Susan; nephew, Cody; niece, Lisa, and father-in-law, Alfred Schultz.
