William "Bill" L. Utley, age 61 of Yankton passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 20, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Rev. Dani Jo Ninke officiating with military rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791 Honor Guard and the Ellsworth AFB Honor Guard. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.
Bill was born July 4, 1953 in Iowa to Harmon and Donna (Sawyer) Utley. He was a USD graduate with a BA Degree. He married Judy Kilbride on April 15, 1994. Bill was employed as a Deputy Sheriff in Vermillion, drug and alcohol counselor at Yankton Federal Prison and employed at Social Services in Vermillion and Brookings. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Elks Club, US Air Force and Disabled Veterans. He loved his family and friends. He was a true and most positive person, a romantic (he gave his wife a vintage Valentine every day for the last fourteen years. His hobbies were collecting coins, baseball cards and rolling pins. He had a love for music, old westerns and his three kitties: Auggie, Bella and Lola.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Yankton, SD; son, Derek Utley of Woodville, TX, daughter, Jacy (Greg) Peterson of Plano, TX; grandchildren: Kyli, Kierra and Keenan; a great grandchild, Callie; brother, Bob Utley of Oregon; sister, Sue Johnson of Meckling, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
