TRAMP JEANETTE

Jeanette L. Tramp, age 89 of Yankton, SD passed away Monday, January 22, 2024 at Angelhaus West, Yankton, SD.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 27, 2024 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Darin Schmidt officiating.  Burial will be in the Beaver Creek Cemetery, rural Crofton, NE at approximately 1:00 PM.  Visitations will be 5 to 7 PM, Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD with a Wake service at 7:00 PM. Jeanette was born September 30, 1934, in Fordyce Nebraska to Rudolph and Lucina (Becker) Schulte on the family farm. She went to grade school at District 108, Brookside School in Fordyce. She graduated from Mount Marty High School. After graduation she obtained her teaching certificate from Springfield College. Jeanette taught school at District 13 and several other schools in Cedar County Nebraska.  She met her future husband Arnold at her cousin’s wedding. She married Arnold Tramp on September 4, 1956. To this union they were blessed with four children. Judy, Joyce, Michael, and June. She worked at Gurneys Seed and Nursery and M-Tron in Yankton while the kids were growing up.

Jeanette and Arnold were both very involved in square dancing and round dancing. They loved to camp and travel.  Jeanette and Arnold were able to take early retirement and moved to Yuma, Arizona in 1985. For 32 years they enjoyed the warm winters of Arizona and returned to South Dakota during the spring and summer. They traveled 1000’s of miles a year visiting family and friends around the Country and Canada. Jeanette loved to play cards and games. Jeanette had a sense of humor and played many pranks. She enjoyed helping out on her daughter’s farm with canning and baking.  Jeanette, enjoyed spending time with her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeanette put others needs before her own. Always a care giver.

Jeanette will be greatly missed by her daughters: Judy (David) Thury of Parkston, SD, Joyce Gratzfeld of Yankton, SD, and June (Bryan) McCardell of Spring Valley CA. 12 grandchildren, 1 step-granddaughter, 28 great grandchildren, 8 step-great grandchildren, Sisters: Sally Borreson of Yankton, SD, Mary Jane Hoesing of Newcastle, NE, Norma (Rahn) VanHove of Renner, SD. Sisters-in-law Shirley McCloud of Yankton, SD, Donna Steffen, Bernice Tramp, Bonnie Tramp, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Jeanette was proceeded in death by her husband of almost 61 years, her parents, son Michael Tramp, son-in-law Joe Gratzfeld Jr., great granddaughter Ashley, great grandsons KeAndre and Ethan, step-grandson Joshua, brother Richard, brothers-in-law William Schaeffer, Finton Hoesing, and Henry Borreson.

In lieu of flowers the family requests Memorials to be decided at families’ discretion.
