Margie McCoy Abbott, age 88 of Yankton passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Avera Hospice House, Yankton.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home Chapel, Yankton. Visitations with the family present will be from 5:30-7:30 PM, Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Margie Esther McCoy was born on September 17, 1928 in Kingsbury County, SD, the eighth of ten children of William Franklin and Nora Cecile (Kelly) McCoy. She grew up in the Climbing Hill, IA area, graduating from Sloan High School in 1946. Prior to marrying James Abbott in March of 1947, she worked as a bookkeeper and receptionist in Sioux City, IA.
In August of 1948, Margie along with Jim and their newborn son moved to Yankton, SD. She was employed by the South Dakota State Employment Office and Morgan T. Smith Insurance. The family moved to Irene, SD in 1964. She served as a member of the Irene School Board and was an active member of the Turkey Valley Baptist Church. Margie and Jim moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1986, moving back to Yankton in 1998.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children: James W. of Vermillion, SD, Nancy of Yankton, SD, Tim (Bernardo) of Lenexa, KS, Bob (Jan) of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeanne (David) Staum of Elk Point, SD, Joanie (David) Urban of Wichita, KS and Laura (Mike) Kribell of Irene, SD; brother, James (Betty) of Chugiak, AK; sister, Kay Schulz of Climbing Hill, IA; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, four brothers, son, Terry, grandson, Nick Staum and daughter-in-law, Colette Abbott.
