Mary Barger-Huber, age 73, of rural Utica, SD passed away unexpectedly early Thursday, September 08, 2016 at the Avera Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.

Mary was born October 7, 1942 in Bloomfield, NE to William and Hilda (Clausen) Bruns. She was baptized, confirmed and attended School at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Bloomfield, NE. After graduation in 1960, she worked in Yankton, South Dakota. On January 4, 1964, she married Marlyn Barger at St. Andrew's Catholic Church and to this union, two children were born, Todd and Troy. Mary helped with the family farming operation near Bloomfield until 1986. She worked as a nurse's aide in Hartington and Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. In 1990, she began working at South Dakota Human Services Center and retiring in the fall of 2010. Marlyn passed away in January 2006. She was united in marriage to Art Huber on June 7, 2008 in Utica, SD. She enjoyed her time working in the kitchen. Aside from her famous homemade pies and cookies, Mary was best known for her canned dill pickles. When she wasn't busy in the kitchen, you could find her outside working with her flowers or weeding in her garden.
Mary is survived by her husband, Art Huber of Utica, SD; sons, Todd (Colleen) Barger of Aurora, NE and their children, Brian, Brendon & Bryce and Troy (Sheila) Barger of Kearney, NE and their children, Zoey & Mattie; step-sons, Gene (Connie Huber) of Yankton, SD and their children, Audriana & Chase and Duane Huber of Westminster, CO and his daughter, Alessa; sisters, Viola Suhr and Arlis Erickson, brother, Robert (Judy) Bruns and brothers-in-law, Roman Wortmann and Gerald Fink.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hilda Bruns, husband, Marlyn Barger, sisters, Wilma Wortmann and Shirley Fink and brothers-in-law, Gary Erickson and Gaylan Suhr.
