Dennis H. Barnes age 68 of South Yankton, NE passed away early Saturday, August 20, 2016 under Hospice Care at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton,

Dennis was born to Harold and Alberta (Jensen) Barnes on March 13, 1948 in Bloomfield, NE. He attended country school in Lindy, NE area until high school. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1966. After high school, he went to Omaha, NE for mechanic training and joined the National Guard. He did his basic training in at Fort Lewis in Spokane, WA. Dennis returned to Bloomfield and gained employment with the company now known as Great Plains Communications. He worked in Ponca, NE, Bloomfield, NE, Crofton, NE and Wisner, NE. First on the construction crew and then as a cable specialist. He retired in May 2005. He married Joyce Palu on September 6, 1969 and to this union, they were blessed with four children.
Dennis enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, bowling and played softball. He was also on the Crofton Volunteer Fire Department and Wisner Fire Department.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Joyce of St. Helena, NE; children: Stacy (Kristi) Barnes, and Lisa (Jon) Mahnke, both of St. Helena, NE, Tara Paulson of Bancroft, NE and Amanda Barnes of Bow Valley, NE; grandchildren: Alexa Heine, Tyler Barnes, Megan Barnes, Lacey Barnes, Dillon Mahnke, Preston Paulson, Peyton Paulson, Parker Paulson and Pierce Paulson and great-grandchildren, Brylee and Rexten Poston.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law.
