Julie A. Munson, age 77 of Yankton passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Online condolences may be sent at www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com.
Julie A. (Morstad) Munson was born September 25, 1938, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her parents were Grant and Cleo (Conklin) Morstad. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Julie graduated from Washington High School in 1956 and Augustana College in 1960 with a Bachelors degree in Nursing. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Munson on November 26, 1960 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Two sons were born, Eric Jon and David Eugene.
Julie began her nursing career at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She then was the In-Service Education Director at St. Lukes Hospital, Aberdeen, Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, and Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. She spent several years as an instructor in the Nursing Department at Mt. Marty College in Yankton before retiring. Julie served several years on the Board of Directors of the South Dakota Children’s Home Society. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Chapter K-P.E.O., Eastern Star, The Sons of Norway, and Stitch ‘N Stew Club.
Julie is survived by her husband, Don; son, Eric and his wife, Chris; grandchildren: Ben, Max, and Julia; her brother, Kent (Judy) Morstad and their children: Jill (Andy Miller) Morstad, Nina (Rob) Ulrich, Paul (Lisa) Morstad, Bret Morstad, Kari Morstad and nieces, Kristi (Brad) Wellendorf and Karin (Steve Hance) Munson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, David.
