Obituary of Daniel J. Johnson
Dan was born in Wagner, SD to Nilus and JoAnne (Honomichl) Johnson on June 6, 1968. He went to high school at Wagner Community School where he competed in football and wrestling. He enlisted with the South Dakota Army National Guard out of Wagner, SD on October 6, 1986. He later graduated from high school in 1987. Dan went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Welding from Lake Area Technical Institute; where he met his wife, Tina Gienger. They were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND on July 21, 1990 and to this union were born, three sons, Derrick (1991), Jason (1994), and Zach (2002).
Dan worked as a welder for Manitou in Yankton, SD for 13 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, particularly the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Twins and was actively involved in all of his sons’ activities. He was a Youth Group Supervisor and Trustee at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tyndall, SD and a part of the Bon Home Athletic Booster Club.
Dan is survived by his sons, Derrick (Brooke) Johnson of Brandon, SD and Jason (Breanna Johanneson) Johnson of Tyndall, SD; parents, Nilus & JoAnne Johnson of Mitchell, SD; brothers: Matt Johnson of Mitchell, SD, Curt (Elaine) Johnson of Beresford, SD and Jeremie (Melissa) Johnson of Glenwood, OK; brothers-in-law, Keith Gienger of Robinson, ND and Kevin Gienger of Kensal, ND; sisters-in-law, Pauline (Darwin) Roeske of Jamestown, ND and Lori (Bill) Rath of Cleveland, ND and several nephews and nieces.
Dan was preceded in death by his grandson, Johnathan Johnson; parents-in-law, Arthur and Lois Gienger and nephew, Wally Diede.
