Marvin Edward Lammers, age 75 of Yankton, SD passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, NE with Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Crofton, NE. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Crofton, NE with a wake service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD is assisting with service details.
Pallbearers will be Adam Sprakel, Dennis Schumacher, William Schumacher, Keith Schumacher, John Schumacher, and Roger Schumacher. Honorary pallbearers are all past and present members of the South Dakota National Guard.
Marvin was born at home, the second of 9 children, August 27, 1940 to Hugo and Hildegard (Arens) Lammers. He grew up on the family farm, attended grade school in Fordyce, NE and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Hartington, NE.
Marvin farmed until the mid-1970's and later gained employment at Dale Electronics where he retired after 20 years.
Marvin married "the love of his life", Marcella (Gentrup) Schumacher, on August 13th, 1974, making their home in Crofton, NE. After retirement in 2001, they moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas and returning to Crofton 3 years later. In 2012 they moved to Yankton, SD.
Marvin was a member of the Yankton SD National Guard for 6 years. His hobbies included: hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, camping with his family and playing cards when he could win.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Marcella of Yankton SD, and 9 step children: Cindy (Jim) Hilligas of Garfield, AR, Dennis (Cindy) Schumacher of Crofton, NE, William (Diane) Schumacher of Wausa, NE, Pamela Sprakel of Yankton SD. Carmine (Robert) Nice of Malmo, NE, Dr. Keith (Rhonda) Schumacher of Howells, NE, Luann (Duane) Schumacher of Bloomfield, NE, John (Kristi) Schumacher of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Roger (Angie) Schumacher of Sarepta, LA; step daughter-in-law, Rita Schumacher; many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren and 3 sisters and 4 brothers: Denelda Becker of Hartington, NE, Allan (Carol) Lammers of Hartington, NE, Mary Jean (Jerry) Steffen of Crofton, NE, Vernon (Glendy) Lammers of Fordyce, NE, Merlyn (Pat) Lammers of Pennsylvania, Daryl (Jean) Lammers of Fordyce, NE, Anita Kneifl of Sioux Falls, SD and David (Lori) Lammers of Fordyce, NE.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, step-son, Bradley Schumacher and brother-in-law, Marcel "Tubber" Becker.
