Metha Melita (Weisz) Wright was born on September 29th, 1930, to Andrew and Hilda Weisz. Metha attended school at the Kaylor Community Country Schools. She was united in marriage to Eugene Wright at St. John Lutheran Church in Kaylor SD on December 10th, 1948. Gene and Metha started their married life on a farm southeast of Scotland and in 1958 they moved to Kaylor where they raised sheep, chickens and an occasional goat (if Abby could talk Grandpa into buying one at the Tripp sale barn).
In 1968 Metha began working as Postmaster at the Kaylor Post Office where she worked for 32 years until her retirement on June 2nd, 2000. Metha was a very kind, generous woman who truly lived her faith every day. Her love for her family and friends was unconditional and steadfast throughout her life. Her house was a welcoming place often filled with family and friends gathering to play a good game of cards, marbles, have a delicious meal (Flesch Keuchel being a family favorite) and good conversation. Gene and Metha were able to travel on many trips with friends throughout their life together, including Alaska, New England and many more! Metha was a very active member of the United Methodist Church in Scotland until it closed and then became a member of the Salem Reformed Church in Menno. Her family and Sunday school kids benefited from her love for Jesus and had the privilege of being taught to love and trust Jesus in all they did through Bible Lessons, Sunbeams Church group and music.
Metha always had beautiful flowers, a bountiful garden and yard work that kept her busy during the summer months. Her family and friends reaped the benefits of many different canned goods throughout the year! Metha enjoyed coffee time after her retirement with her Kaylor friends and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who often said going to Grandma and Grandpas was like going on vacation because they had so much fun playing games, feeding the sheep and bottle lambs, having a picnic or riding the golf cart around Kaylor. Bowling was also something she loved to do winning many trophies and obtaining the title of "Queen of the Lanes."
Metha moved to the Menno Olivet Care Center on November 8th, 2018, and made it her home, enjoying the kind staff and residents. She passed away on June 7th, 2025, at the age of 94.
Metha will be missed greatly by her daughter Cindy (Brian) Herrboldt, 6 grandchildren; Heidi (Brian) Sayler, Melissa Hisek, Nicole (Mark) Hodgen, Austin (Amanda) Herrboldt, Abby (Robert) Schoenfish, and Ajay (Maiya Muller) Herrboldt. 15 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren; Garrett (Carly) Sayler and daughter Cruze, Madeline (Nic) Madsen, daughter Aspen and baby Madsen due in September, Grace, Elijah, Levi Sayler, Sofia and Georgia Hisek, Aden and Olivia Hodgen, Ashlynn, Joanna, Camden, Cooper and Lydia Herrboldt, and Shaylee Schoenfish. She was preceded in death by her parents, and parents in law Lathiel and Florence Wright, husband Gene in 2012, son Gary in 1997, daughter Denise in infancy, grandson Adam Herrboldt and a brother Floyd (Edith Munkvold) Weisz, Brother and Sister in laws Glen and Violet (Gemar) Wright, Kenneth and Gertrude (Mutschelknaus) Wright, and Eugene and Laureen (Wright) Herrboldt
As we say goodbye to Metha for now her wish for each of you would be to have Jesus as your Savior so that she will see you in heaven again one day.
