HUBER ROB

Rob Huber age 64 of Freeman, SD passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 30, 2025 on his farm.  Visitations will be Sunday May 4, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman. Funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday May 5, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman with Rev. Brian Mosemann officiating. Burial will follow at the Freeman City Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com. Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel of Menno is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rob was born March 24, 1961 to Herbert & Myrna (Albrecht) Huber in Freeman. Rob was baptized at St Paul’s Lutheran and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran. He later became a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman. He attended country school and then graduated from Menno High School in 1979.

From a young age he worked on the farm with his father and uncles, Curt and Ray. In his free time you could find him at Square Deal Garage. Spending so much time with his grandpa Fred and uncles, Harvey and Felix, he quickly picked up his love for fixing anything with an engine. They also influenced his passion for the outdoors. That love for outdoors grew into pushing his children into nature. Often times that meant pretending they were just a few more labs in the field to kick up birds. Not only did he share his passions with his children, but more importantly his grandchildren. He spent countless hours creating a lake and stocking it with fish for his grandkids to enjoy. Nothing brought him more joy then sharing his lake with his family and friends.

In 1979 Rob met Vicki on a blind date. They weren’t each other’s dates. Spoiler alert: they started dating & fell in love. They were married in 1984. They lived on the same acreage since marriage. They had two children, Jess & Kyle. They spent every weekend up north camping & fishing. Their pictures are probably still hanging in multiple gas stations showing off their giant walleyes and northerns. Rumor has it Vicki, Jess and Kyle could probably out fish everyone because of the extensive hours they have invested (or forced to participate) in fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki; children, Jessica (Ethan) Schmeichel, Kyle (Kayla) Huber; grandchildren, Colt, Ben, and Matt; sisters Joan (Greg) Andersen and Jackie (Chet) Groen; Brothers Chris (Molly) Huber, Jeff (Janet) Huber, and Steve (Katie) Huber; Brother-in-law Darrell Elcock; Sisters-in-law Judy (Leroy) Nagel, and Wanda Wentzel; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Herbert and mother Myrna; father-in-law Delmer Elcock; mother-in-law Lydia Elcock; nephews Bradley Wek and Corey Wek; and two grandchildren in Heaven that we never met.
