Audrey Lubbers, age 95 of Yankton, SD passed away Sunday March 9, 2025, at the Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Bob Lacey officiating.  Her burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD with a luncheon to follow at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home. Visitations will be from 5 to 7 PM, Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD with a wake service at 7:00 PM.  Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be sent at www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com. Audrey’s grandsons, Mark, Paul, Gary, Anthony, Christopher, and Nicholas Lubbers, will be the pallbearers.

Audrey was born on October 12, 1929, in Yankton. She grew up on the Wood family farm just North of Midway, SD, on Highway 81 North of Yankton. She attended elementary school in a one-room school near the farm and later the Irene Public Schools.  After graduating from high school, she moved to Yankton to work at Gurney Seed and Nursery. She worked as a secretary and in the data entry department. She was known for her typing speed and accuracy.

On August 10, 1948, she married Albert R. Lubbers at St. Columba Catholic Church in Mayfield, SD.  She devoted her life to her family, friends, volunteering and crafts. Audrey was a devoted volunteer at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital for nearly four decades, leading the craft committee that raised thousands of dollars for patient care and helping in the Home Health Care Department. She also volunteered at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. When not working or volunteering, she loved to knit, crochet, craft and read.

Audrey is survived by her four sons, Bryan, Bruce (Pennie), Charles (Brenda) and Curtis; eleven grandchildren, Kari (Randy) Nickell, Mark (Michelle) Lubbers, Anne (Shane) Geer, Paul Lubbers, Gary Lubbers, Anthony Lubbers, Katelyn Lubbers, Christopher (Jada) Lubbers, Nicholas (Sierra) Lubbers, Amanda (Kaine) Kelly, and Becky (Sterling) Schneidewind; and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo Wood, Sr. and Genevieve (Huber) Wood, her husband Albert R. Lubbers; her siblings Marilyn (Wood) Dangel, Leo Wood, Jr, and Clarine (Wood) Fejfar; and one daughter-in-law, Rosemary (Wessling) Lubbers.
