He was born October 3, 1939 in Crofton, NE to Levi and Wilda Zimmerman. He was the oldest of thirteen children. He was a devoted husband to Evelyn, married 64 years, and father to Bud Zimmerman and Shelly Lee.

Dick was enlisted in the US Army, engineering, and “drinking” department. He went to Vietnam for three years and was also stationed in Kansas and Germany, where he met the love of his life, Evelyn.

Dick was hard-working and dedicated. He worked many years for Harding Glass in Yankton. He spent his last years working maintenance for John Blackburn.

Dick’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding horse. Hunting and fishing for Dick were most enjoyed with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn, as well as son Bud (Tammy) Zimmerman and daughter Shelly Lee (Travis Blakey). Dick was blessed with six grandchildren: Sheldon, Chandler, and Maddy Lee; Josh (Teresa) Zimmerman, Tonya (Justin) Rudd, and Branden (Kelli) Zimmerman. Dick spoiled his ten great-grandchildren and was looking forward to meeting #11 in July.

Dick is survived by four sisters: Lucy (Stanley) Hoeffs, Mary (Laddie) Novak, Barb (Clyde) Yosten, Joan (Bob) Nelsen and five brothers: Ronnie, Steven, Jerry, David, and Daryl along with many nieces and nephews.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents Levi and Wilda, son-in-law Lonny Lee, brothers Glen and Jim, sister Carol Nielsen, and sisters-in-law Linda, Kathy, and Lorraine.
