Obituary of Laurene Hauck
Laurene Hauck, 62, of Scotland, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD after a courageous battle with cancer. Graveside services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 29, at the Menno Cemetery. Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel in Menno is assisting with arrangements. Laurene Dawn Burgess Hauck was born to Larry and Lola Kleffman Burgess on July 6, 1961 in Faulkton, SD. Laurene spent her toddler years on the Thunderbird Ranch at Norbeck, SD. At a young age her family moved to Fort Collins, CO. Laurene graduated from Poudre High School, Fort Collins, CO. During her high school years, Laurene worked at the downtown Ft Collins Sewing Store, Cake World decorating cakes and catering, was a newspaper carrier for the Fort Collins Coloradoan, and helped many neighbors with mowing and babysitting jobs. Laurene also volunteered as a Candy Striper at Poudre Valley Hospital.
Laurene had a very caring heart and a soft spot for the elderly. Many became lifelong friends. This trait also took her on a new adventure after high school to Powersville, MO where she helped her Great Uncle George care for her dear Great Aunt Mary.
Laurene later moved to the Yankton/Utica, SD area.
Laurene loved living on the farm, loved flowers and gardening, and being outdoors.
Laurene treasured her role as a mother to her four boys, Brett, Baron, Braden, and Barak. They and her grandchildren were one of her greatest joys in life.
Laurene farmed and cleaned houses for 17 years. She was a rural mail carrier for 22 years in Scotland, SD until her failing health required her to retire in 2022.
Laurene made her choice as a young teenager to serve God and she stayed true to that choice until her death.
Laurene is survived by her three sons, Baron (Laura) Hauck of Harrisburg, SD, Braden (Emily) Hauck of Harrisburg, SD, and Barak (Nicci) Hauck of Indio, CA, seven grandchildren Maia, Tanner, Jaxson, Brody, Sawyer, Colbie, Nolan, mother Lola Burgess of Fort Collins, CO, brother Lynn (Lorrie) Burgess of Windsor, CO, sister LeAnn Carlson of Scottsbluff, NE, special aunt Velda Forkel of York, NE and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Brett Hauck and father Larry Burgess.
There will be a private memorial service at a later date.
