Obituary of Jerome Albert Kuehn

Please share a memory of Jerome to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jerome (Jerry) Kuehn was born September 22, 1935 in Crofton NE, to Leonard & Anna (Borgheiinck) Kuehn.  Jerry enlisted in the US Army in 1957 and served until 1959. While serving, he enjoyed traveling to many of the European Countries.  He then served in the National Guards from 1959 to April 30, 1963 and was honorably discharged.  He then began work as a brick layer upon returning home.  On April 23, 1966 he married Donna Kruse and to this union a daughter, Melissa was born in 1970.  Jerry began working for the Cedar County Department of Roads as a heavy equipment operator.  He spent the next 30 years keeping the county road smooth and clear of snow and retiring in 2001.  In 1998 he was blessed with a granddaughter, Camarie, whom took much pride.  Jerry was very strong in his faith; church was very important to him.  He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, then moved to Yankton and became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends.  He enjoyed the times he went with his nephews to the swap meets in Iowa and the great times going to sprint car races in Knoxville.  Jerry's favorite past time was watching NASCAR.  His highlight was attending a NASCAR race at the Kansas Speedway.  He spent many mornings at Paul's Quick Stop having coffee and sharing stories with the guys.  All who knew him, knew how he loved to visit; his favorite topics were NASCAR and the weather.  One of the things he enjoyed after retiring, was taking his 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxy to car shows and going on poker runs.

In 2015 Jerry entered the Avera Sister James Care Center and was a resident until his death.  He loved having visitors.  He especially enjoyed the visits from the Vets, the many activities and great conversations with his dinner companions.  The care givers of the nursing home enjoyed Jerry as much as he did them.  Jerry led a good full life and was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Donna (Kruse) Kuehn of Yankton, SD; daughter, Melissa Stratman (Corey) of Hartington, NE; granddaughter, Camarie Stratman of Hartington, NE; sisters, Norma (Dean) Sime of Caputa, SD and Cheryl (Art) Bottolfson of Crofton, NE; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
